February 19
Isaiah 58:9-10 – Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, “Here I am”. If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom will be like the noonday.
Our lights shine as we help other’s lights shine, but this passage asks that we “satisfy the needs of the afflicted.” Determining the actual needs of our neighbors, however, is quite difficult. Feeding someone is easy. Feeding someone a nutritious, healthy meal requires intentionality, forethought and willingness.
Prayer Gracious and merciful God, help me understand the true needs of my neighbors so my help may satisfy the need you see. AMEN.
