$30 will help provide food, clean water, and start the journey of hope and healing for a child in need of medical care.
THE NEED ON THE GROUND
Compromised immune systems and added health and rehabilitation needs make those with disabilities even more at risk of coronavirus infection.
These families had a hand-to-mouth existence before COVID-19. With quarantine measures closing businesses and markets and shutting down public transit, these families are going under.
They can’t get to the hospital for testing or for treatment. Many can’t put food on the table.
Health systems in the countries where we serve are already stretched. In this panicked environment, life-saving cleft lip and palate surgery to stop babies from starving, surgery for hydrocephalus (water on the brain) that without treatment kills 90% of children – these are considered non-essential.
OUR 3-POINT ACTION PLAN in Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania:
Last mile (Door-to-Door) Food Distribution
With local partners, we’re delivering food to some of the hardest hit families. We will prioritize the most vulnerable children and families and deliver basic food (grains, oil, beans) and soap door-to-door to keep these families alive.
We are working with national health departments and systems to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in these countries. Through soap distribution, provision of clean water and hygiene education (hand-washing, physical distancing, disinfecting assistive devices), we are teaching families and communities how to keep themselves and their neighbours safe.
Easing Health Systems
We are bolstering the stretched health systems in these countries – giving our partners the ability to respond to urgent trauma and life and death surgeries for especially vulnerable kids. By doing what we do best, we can take pressure off government hospitals as they focus on treating cases of COVID-19.
