Our amazing community-based partner travels to 13 different districts in central Malawi to identify kids with disabilities and connect them with us so they can get the medical treatment they otherwise couldn’t afford.
Journey to Treatment
Many of these kids have visual impairments, orthopaedic disabilities or they need prosthetics. Once their specific needs have been identified, our community rehabilitation workers refer these kids to the best hospital for them. If the child doesn’t have anyone to travel with them to the hospital, our partner will even send a community health worker with the child so they aren’t alone.
We cover the cost for a child’s travel, food and even their housing while they receive treatment. After these kids are discharged from the hospital, our partner works to enroll them in school.
We also provide training for caregivers through peer support groups and information clinics that teach parents exercises and methods to best care for their children with disabilities. Each child is precious, and we’re committed to making sure these kids get the best care possible.
