About the job:

The System Administrator ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of new and existing technology and information systems that support core organizational functions of Hope and Healing International. The position is also responsible for setting up and maintaining the system and Hope and Healing International’s server infrastructure (Exchange, VM, storage).

More specifically, the System Administrator will be involved with:

  • User administration (setup and maintaining account)
  • Maintaining system
  • Verifying that peripherals are working properly
  • Arranging repair for hardware in occasion of hardware failure
  • Monitoring system performance
  • Creating file systems
  • Installing software
  • Creating a backup and recovery policy
  • Monitoring network communication
  • Updating system as soon as new version of OS and application software comes out
  • Implementing the policies for the use of the computer system and network
  • Setting up security policies for users
  • Documentation in form of internal wiki
  • Password and identity management
  • Ensuring that servers are running properly by completing regular check ups
  • Ensuring that network switches and UPS are running properly
  • Back-up hardware running check-ups
  • Disaster recovery testing when possible
  • Troubleshooting network issues (outside business hours)
  • Communicating, collaborating and negotiating with the vendors and suppliers
  • Regular maintenance of network hardware
  • Scheduling and running updates (i.e. Virus protection, MS, other)
  • Identifying, gathering and accepting users issues requests
  • Establishing priorities and schedule Break fix
  • Communicating with users on a regular basis on the status of their issues requests
  • Contacting vendors and contractors regarding hardware equipment
  • Supporting the inventory control system for all IT hardware and software
  • Distribution and deployment of new / used equipment in coordination with HR Department
  • Retirement / Disposal of redundant equipment
  • Assisting / making recommendations in development of IT procedures and policies
  • Providing input into company decisions regarding software and hardware using knowledge of latest trends and applications
  • Participating in department meetings
  • Handling emergency calls

 Our ideal candidate would have:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Engineering / Computer Science Hardware Networking or related discipline OR College Degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent plus 3 years of direct experience
  • 3 to 5 years of direct ongoing experience
  • Knowledge of networking and network security
  • Working knowledge of print server and printer technology
  • Knowledge of network switches
  • Knowledge of phone system
  • Knowledge of MS Exchange 2010 and up, VMWare & NetApp, Windows 8,10, Office Suite & Office 365, Mac OXS, MS SQL, VMware, XEN Server, Windows Server 2008 and up, Exchange server, Cloud computing and moving from On Prem to Cloud
  • Advanced oral and written communication English skills to be able to present information in terms understandable to all levels of audience
  • Interpersonal skills to be able to provide guidance, advice and training on technical issues to all staff
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate and negotiate with the vendors and suppliers on a regular basis
  • Ability to manage a number of projects at one time, and be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of the staff
  • Ability to ascertain skills and aptitude of various user groups and ensure technology and training is provided to meet organizational needs
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Follow up skills
  • Ability to follow given directions, guidelines and instructions
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

 Working conditions and other requirements:

  • Physical demands should be minimal with the exception of extended periods spent at a personal computer
  • May require moving computer equipment, supplies and office materials weighting up to and over 10 kg
  • Position may require to respond on emergency calls outside business hours
  • Must have a reliable source of transportation
