In Ethiopia, we work closely with our partner in the Amhara Region. Our partner has been working in Amhara for over 35 years, and one of their passions is disability inclusion.
Trachoma School Screenings
We travel with our expert technicians to many schools in the area to screen children for disabilities. Specifically, we focus on trachoma because it’s so common in this area. Trachoma is a highly infectious eye disease that can lead to blindness if left untreated. The good news is that trachoma is completely preventable, and we work with our partner so the kids we meet retain the miracle of sight.
Helping Kids Beat Trachoma
With our partner, we provide clean water and latrines to help these kids beat trachoma. We also create school clubs that focus on proper hygiene and hand-washing techniques. These programs are all part of disability prevention as hygiene education helps stop the spread of the disease.
If a child needs more in-depth medical treatment, our partner makes sure they receive the surgery and/or medical care they need. We believe that each child deserves the right to sight and health, and we’re committed to doing all we can to make that a reality.
